Ed Elkins advances leadership role with Georgia Chamber, will serve as Chair in 2025

Norfolk Southern has built a longstanding reputation as a constructive and visible corporate citizen in each region of our 22-state service area. Whether through participation in local rotary clubs, traffic organizations, or chambers of commerce, understanding the unique business dynamics of each community where we operate is essential to our company's mission.

The Georgia Chamber of Commerce (Georgia Chamber) has been dedicated to enhancing the state’s pro-business environment for over 100 years. Given Norfolk Southern's presence in Georgia since the mid-1840s, and thanks to the efforts of organizations like the Georgia Chamber, our company's rail network has thrived alongside the Georgia business community. Reflecting our commitment, Norfolk Southern Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Ed Elkins was appointed to the Georgia Chamber Executive Committee as Foundation Chair in 2023, served as Vice Chair in 2024, and will progress to Chair in 2025.

Elkins’ new leadership role was announced during the Georgia Chamber’s annual legislative breakfast, Eggs & Issues, where he addressed a gathering of more than 2,600 legislators, business leaders, and the state’s top elected officials – like Governor Brian Kemp. Elkins shared the following comment about his new role:

“It’s an honor to serve as Chair of the Georgia Chamber, building on the strong foundation laid by Pedro Cherry, Chris Clark, and past leaders. Georgia’s business community shares a commitment to growth.

Guided by The Georgia Way, we’ll continue driving sustainable progress, supporting our communities, and ensuring Georgia remains a global leader and a beacon of opportunity for generations to come. As a representative of Norfolk Southern, a railroad that powers the nation’s supply chain from right here in Georgia, I’m especially proud to contribute to this mission and amplify the interests of Georgia businesses – big and small.”

The Georgia Chamber launched its capstone project, the 2025 Economic Competitiveness Redbook, during the event. Among other insights, the report notes that rail transportation is one of the most efficient and sustainable ways to move goods in the state: “It would take 2.1 million additional trucks on the road to move the 38.4 million tons of freight that originated by rail in Georgia in 2021, underscoring Norfolk Southern’s importance to the state’s economy and future.”
