Furthering our commitment to Western Pennsylvania communities

As part of our commitment to supporting Western Pennsylvania residents and agricultural communities, we recently donated $1 million to the Pittsburgh Foundation, allocated a portion of the Community Relief Fund to Western Pennsylvanians, and sponsored an agricultural event at the annual New Galilee Carnival on July 29.

$1 Million Donation will help improve quality of life in region

The Pittsburgh Foundation is a nonprofit focused on improving the quality of life in the greater Pittsburgh region through responsible philanthropy, evaluating and addressing community issues, and connecting donors to the critical needs of the community.

The Pittsburgh Foundation will allocate $250,000 of our $1 million donation among Beaver County and Lawrence County nonprofits. The remaining $750,000 will be used to establish an endowment fund where accrued interest will provide long-term support to the area. The Foundation will distribute funds to nonprofits focused on basic human needs; health and wellness; community development; education; workforce; safety; economic development; sustainability, and the environment.

Community Relief Fund allocated to meet greatest needs

Norfolk Southern previously established a $1 million Community Relief Fund for Western Pennsylvania residents. In collaboration with elected officials, we will allocate $660,000 of the relief fund to Darlington Township and $340,000 to Lawrence County for distribution within their communities.

Norfolk Southern hosts local farmers market

This year, Norfolk Southern sponsored the New Galilee Carnival, which included providing free rides and hosting a local farmers market for attendees from the New Galilee, Beaver County and greater Western Pennsylvania communities.

Local Pennsylvania farmers who brought produce and other goods to sell at the market received a $1,000 stipend to support the setup of their booths and earned an additional five percent on top of generated sales.

We are honored to support the Western Pennsylvania community through these efforts, which bring our total Pennsylvania commitment to $8.5 million.
