ICYMI: Norfolk Southern HBCU Scholar featured in The Atlanta Voice

Norfolk Southern Thoroughbred Scholar Alana Gulley of Atlanta was featured on the front page of The Atlanta Voice last week. Gulley, the stepdaughter of Norfolk Southern Supervisor Purchasing Edward “Ed” Lee, was selected as this year’s distinguished HBCU Scholar through the NS Thoroughbred Scholars program.

More than 100 children of Norfolk Southern employees received college scholarships through the program, which launched in July 2022. Each year, the program provides 100 scholarships for up to $10,000 over four years, along with three additional scholarships for distinguished students who will receive rewards of up to $40,000 over four years.

One of the Thoroughbred Scholars program’s three distinguished scholarships, the HBCU Scholar is awarded annually to a student attending or planning to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU). Gulley is attending Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she will study psychology and hopes to pursue a career in forensic psychology.
