Norfolk Southern and Penn State sponsor scholarship for Women in Engineering Design Competition winners

Penn State Altoona this week announced the winners of its fourth annual Women in Engineering Design Competition, hosted by Penn State Altoona’s Rail Transportation Engineering (RTE) program in partnership with the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum. Prizes included a total of $6,500 in scholarship money, which was sponsored by Norfolk Southern and Penn State.

This year’s competition theme was “Horseshoe Curve,” a national historic railroad landmark in Altoona owned and operated by Norfolk Southern. Competitors were tasked with a quiz, a research design segment, and a final round of designing the track alignment for the Horseshoe Curve before the landmark was built.
