Norfolk Southern’s existing customer, Kronospan, recently announced plans to invest $350 million to open an Oriented Strand Board (OSB) manufacturing plant in Oxford, Alabama, creating 125 new jobs. Kronospan is a leading producer of wood panel products.
NS Industrial Development teamed up with partners at the Alabama Department of Commerce, Calhoun County Economic Development Council, and City of Oxford to help support this project. Kronospan’s decision to expand operations in Alabama will solidify the future of this important employer in Oxford as well as increase the company’s ability to meet a growing need for wood panel products and high-quality construction materials. The team at NS extends our congratulations to both the company and our economic development allies on this new venture.
Kronospan’s existing Alabama manufacturing center opened in 2008 and produces laminate flooring, medium-density fiberboard, thermally fused laminate, particle board and other products. Norfolk Southern has been its long-standing rail provider. Located on 460 acres, the company calls it the largest and most vertically integrated wood products site in North America. The OSB investment project features 44 acres of new development, including substantial areas designated for product storage, rail spur and loading docks.
