As part of our mission to set the gold standard for safety in the rail industry, Norfolk Southern is always looking for innovative opportunities to engage front line railroaders in the continuous pursuit of safety knowledge about our rules, processes, and procedures.

With this in mind, we’ve introduced the Safety Up mobile app, a microlearning application engineered to maximize learning potential in a short period of time. It comes with customized and personalized interactive exercises tuned to the work we do every day.  Hosted by Axonify, this easy-to-use app will bring safety learning opportunities to railroaders every shift.  The app is available on all NS-issued devices. Exercises take only 3-5 minutes to complete and include an opportunity to play a game in between questions.

NS has made Safety Up available to the entire workforce and is scaling up content created. By starting each shift with a Safety Up exercise, railroaders begin their workday with a focus on safety. Gamified exercises will help to expand and reinforce knowledge.
