Norfolk Southern named to USA TODAY's America's Climate Leaders 2024 list

For the second consecutive year, Norfolk Southern has earned a spot on USA TODAY's prestigious America's Climate Leaders list for 2024. This recognition highlights our ongoing commitment to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and promoting sustainable business practices.

The list recognizes U.S.-based companies that have made significant progress in reducing their GHG emissions intensity. The 2024 rankings specifically cover the period from 2020 to 2022, reflecting each company's efforts during these critical years.

"We are honored to once again be recognized as one of USA Today’s America's Climate Leaders,” said Norfolk Southern Chief Sustainability Officer Josh Raglin. “As one of the nation’s leading freight railroads, we understand the critical role we play in reducing supply chain emissions and fostering a transition to a low-carbon economy. This acknowledgment reaffirms our ongoing commitment to reducing our environmental footprint and highlights the hard work of our entire team in driving sustainable practices across our operations."

Norfolk Southern’s inclusion in this year's list underscores our dedication to environmental stewardship and highlights our successful implementation of strategies to mitigate climate impact. We have consistently worked to lower our core emissions, including Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, through various sustainability-focused initiatives and strategic investments aimed at enhancing fuel, energy, and operational efficiencies.

In 2023, we released our inaugural Climate Transition Plan (CTP), acknowledging climate-related risks and opportunities to reduce our GHG emissions and responding to the evolving regulatory and market landscape surrounding climate change.
