Norfolk Southern partners with Atlanta Community Food Bank to combat hunger

Norfolk Southern has teamed up with the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) to address food insecurity in the Atlanta area. The partnership, highlighted by a collective $350,000 donation and employee engagement efforts, underscores our commitment to supporting our communities.

Our ongoing support will enhance ACFB’s capacity to provide nutritious meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity. By combining financial support with employee engagement, we aim to strengthen ACFB’s efforts in promoting a healthier, more resilient community.

In the last year, Norfolk Southern has:

  • Matched more than $25,000 in employee donations to ACFB through our Thoroughbred Giving Portal, which launched in June 2023.
  • Contributed $250,000 towards the nonprofit’s Transforming the Neighbor Experience Campaign, which helps to ensure that Georgia families have more frequent, consistent, convenient, and equitable access to food.
  • Donated an additional $100,000 to support ACFB’s need for increased food distribution, enabling the nonprofit to maintain essential services and respond effectively to the increase in food insecurity in the Atlanta community.
  • Engaged employees to volunteer more than 230 hours of hands-on support at the Food Bank, as well as hosted a food drive at our Atlanta headquarters.

In a press release from ACFB, President and CEO Kyle Waide expressed gratitude for the partnership. “Norfolk Southern’s commitment to community means we have the ability to respond both now and in the future to ensure no one goes hungry in greater Atlanta and North Georgia.”

Each of our corporate giving initiatives strategically addresses at least one of our four key focus areas — safety, sustainability, workforce development, and thriving communities — while building relationships and fostering inclusion in the types of programs and organizations we support.
