Norfolk Southern’s “Giving November” efforts make a lasting impact across communities

This November, Norfolk Southern employees and the Community Impact team joined forces to make a meaningful difference across the 22 states served by our network. With a focus on combating housing insecurity, we extended our efforts beyond financial contributions, embracing the spirit of volunteerism and community engagement.

Highlights of our “Giving November” campaign include:

  • Nearly $1 million donated to 51 nonprofit organizations in 14 states addressing housing insecurity.
  • A 2:1 matching program amplifying employee contributions to nonprofits combatting housing insecurity.
  • Volunteer efforts totaling 67 participants and over 450 hours spent supporting local organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the Atlanta Midtown Assistance Center.

One of the standout moments of the month was our Thanksgiving turkey distribution event, where eight Norfolk Southern volunteers dedicated their time to help ensure families in need could celebrate the holiday with a warm meal.

Norfolk Southern also partnered with City of Refuge, an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization that helps individuals and families transition out of crisis, to provide $350,000 in funding this month to support the construction and equipment needs of its new welding training center. Kristin Wong, Director of the NS Foundation and Community Impact, shared her thoughts on the collective effort:

“Giving November highlights the power of collaboration and compassion within the Norfolk Southern family. From substantial financial contributions to hands-on volunteer work, our team is committed to making a real difference in the lives of our neighbors. Together, we are building stronger, more resilient communities.”

As we close this chapter of Giving November, Norfolk Southern remains steadfast in our commitment to community investment and partnership. Together, we look forward to driving even greater impact in the months and years to come.
