Two Norfolk Southern employees named as Progressive Railroading Rising Stars

Norfolk Southern proudly announces that two of its railroaders have been named 2024 Rising Stars by Progressive Railroading. Adam Motsinger and Jacob Elium received this year’s honor, placing them among 25 up-and-coming rail industry leaders in North America under age 40. Honorees were recognized by their peers, colleagues, supervisors, clients, and associates for making a positive impact in the rail industry.

Adam Motsinger is Manager Environmental Operations at Norfolk Southern, where he impacts the rail industry through his exceptional leadership and dedication to shaping a more sustainable railroad. He oversees sustainability projects and acts as a key contributor to natural resource mitigation banks and solar development planning across Norfolk Southern’s 22-state network.

Motsinger’s commitment to developing eco-friendly best practices, paired with his proactive approach to hazardous material management, has improved environmental performance standards. He excels in his role, always seeking a better way and advocating for positive change.

Jacob Elium is Vice President Network Planning and Operations, where he drives innovation and efficiency in the rail industry through strategic leadership. He oversees more than 80 professionals across multiple departments responsible for fleet and capacity planning, commercial planning, interline, and data optimization.

Elium seeks to balance service, productivity, and growth by facilitating Norfolk Southern’s unique growth strategy while championing customer needs. This includes advocating for customer-centric, operations-driven service and supporting initiatives to help Norfolk Southern deliver safe, reliable service.
